Phone it in

Claire Green

For The Big O Issue, it made sense to feature an Olympics-bound legend for Phone It In, and we were lucky enough to land Olympic Trials Qualifier and all-around turbo-athlete Claire Green.

Claire, who has kinda done it all (swimming, volleyball, cross country, various short distances, the modern pentathlon, possibly even curling, etc.), had her first Olympic Trials experience in June when she made it into the 2024 U.S Olympic Team Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon. Her event of choice: The Women’s 5000m. She didn’t get the result she wanted this time, but she’s young, fast, and has a dyed-in-the-wool determination that will undoubtedly see her through to Olympic glory in the near future. These are the early days of Claire Green.

Let’s have a look at her phone.

My New Year's rezy was to become a sports enthusiast. Cue me at a British soccer bar watching the Euro Cup finals on a Wednesday afternoon. Ignored the game but admired the scarf collection.

Favorite Human

My camera-shy man. He's an absolute gem, trust.

Where You Are When You're Not Running

I love a little live music. Small venues over stadiums. The Independent in SF forever has my heart.

Something Cool That Has Fur

As an allergy-prone queen, I keep my distance from fur. But this fuzzy little gnome has been with me for ten years in six different homes and three different states. He's a trooper.

The Inside of Your Refrigerator

In my defense, this is my hotel fridge in the middle of France. We only have the space and funds for the essentials.

The Place You Keep All Your Running Gear

A classic duffel. Intended to make me pack light, but the zipper is already busted so here we are.

Something Weird

The Potter heads will appreciate this one. Voldemort's dying soul from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II on the Warner Brother's studio tour. Weird but epic.

A Tattoo or Scar & The Story Behind It

I met a couple of 19-year-old Brits while traveling in Portugal last summer, and somehow wound up taking them to get their first tattoos the day we met. Got this li’l flower patch in solidarity and would like to formally apologize to the girls’ mothers for corrupting them.

Something You Need to Throw Out

The pocket Constitution I was handed on campus freshman year. Treason? Maybe. Trash? Absolutely.

Your Proudest Moment

Qualified for my first Olympic Trials this year. Pretty damn proud of that.
