Hello, Bonjour, Habari, Konnichiwa and welcome to POSSESSED No. 60: The Punk Issue.

You might be wondering why your favorite running magazine is dedicating an issue to all things Punk, and by all means, wonder away. But don’t even think about telling me or the POSSESSED team what to do, because we resent authority and spit at all systems of control. Wanna know why? Because we’re PUNKS, motherfucker. We’re not interested in your society and its career paths and lifestyle expectations and utility bills and signs that say ‘Please Wash Your Hands’. We refuse to conform! And you might say, ‘Really? But aren’t you getting paid to meet deadlines, Mr. Punky-pants?’ And that’d be a great point if I actually made my deadline. This editor’s letter was filed a day late. Mainly because I struggled to nail that rebellious, anarchic, Punk-as-heck tone. To be honest, I’m not sure I got it in the end... What do you think? Don’t answer! We don’t care. We’re Punks, and this is the Punk Issue. If you don’t like it, you can take a hike (I didn’t mean that; please stay).

In this special Punk Issue of POSSESSED, we have so much rad stuff, not least of all an interview with Black Flag frontman and Punk Rock legend Henry Rollins! We also caught up with esteemed rock photographer Steve Rapport, who y’all know as the guy that photographed Joe Strummer at the 1983 London Marathon. Then we jumped on a call with the most punk pro athlete on the SATISFY team, Mike Versteeg, to discuss his mini ramp dimensions and race plans for 2025. There’s also an amazing Race Report from this year’s Black Canyon Ultra, a recipe for muscle-salving Beet on the Brat Bars©, some handy resistance band drills to make you faster and stronger, and we explain the concept of DIY to perhaps the stupidest alien we’ve encountered yet. We also give you your running punk horoscope, call bullshit on the belief that running aint Punk, and, as if that wasn’t enough to make you dye your hair blue and curl your upper lip, we also cobbled together a maddeningly difficult crossword (sorry, punks—print only).
