Here we are again with another digital version of a physical, tangible, breath-in-able, ink-all-over-your-fingers-and-now-it’s-on-your-face issue of POSSESSED. Goddamn. Did you score a copy of the real thing? How good does it feel? Better question—how good does it look? I haven’t seen it. No one has. It hasn’t been made yet. I’m speaking to you from a time before the printing presses were set awhirl. I’m also speaking to you from a time before I interviewed the star of this issue: the legendary ultrarunner Scott Jurek. I hope it turned out well (are you kidding me? Of course it did). This is POSSESSED No. 58: Scott is POSSESSED.
Thanks to the enormous amount of press that has followed him on his phenomenal career, there’s a good chance you already know absolutely everything there is to know about the incredible endurance superstar that is Scott Jurek. But did you know he had a big metal phase when he was younger? Massive Ratt fan (I’m guessing; I haven’t asked him yet). Pretty surprising, right? There’s a lot of surprising stuff in this all-Scott issue of POSSESSED. For one, there’s the aforementioned interview with Scott, which will, if the questions I’ve written are anything to go by, be very surprising—then there’s a breakdown of Scott’s most mind-bending (and surprising) athletic achievements, beginning at Western States back in 1999. After that, we have an in-depth interview with the person who knows Scott better than Scott himself: his wife, co-author, and right-hand-woman, Jenny Jurek. There’s also a vegan winter chili recipe straight from the Jurek family cookbook, a running playlist of Scott’s favorite tunes, some behind-the-scenes snapshots from the Scott Jurek photo album, and a crossword made up of Scott-related clues. Then there’s the reader mail, of course, and your running stars and some other random little bits and bobs.
